Ceramic Lamps As Environmental Products

For several decades, climate change, global warming and other environmental concerns have been major issues here and abroad. Laws and regulations to protect and conserve our natural resources have been passed but it seems like nothing has changed. Instead our situation has gotten from worse to worst. Storms, flash floods and the erratic change of our weather are proofs that there is no improvement. In addition the hole of the ozone layer had gotten even bigger. A few more years and we might see the last of our planet. It may sound far fetched but sooner or later apocalyptic and post-apocalyptic fiction movies such as 2012 and The Colony will become a reality unless we act on it.

There are many ways how we can save this planet. We can start in our homes by using environmental friendly products and organic products. Using energy saving electric appliances such as televisions and lighting fixtures is also a huge help. These products are somewhat expensive. However, after using energy saving electronic appliances and lighting fixtures only our electric bills dropped by 40%.

In addition, using environmental friendly products are safe to use because they are made from natural materials or recycled materials. Among the environmental friendly products that we have been using are the ceramic lighting fixtures which we bought only recently. The ceramic lamps are made of white earthenware clay and are artfully handcrafted by skilled artisans. Its simplicity and elegance blend well with any home designs. But what I like the most about the ceramic lamps is that they are ADA (Americans with Disability Act) compliant and UL listed. Some ceramic lamps manufacturers and lighting designers might still be using the energy inefficient incandescent lamps but we can always make a request to change the light bulbs to energy saving lamps such as LED (light emitting diode) lights instead.

According to  Margaret Mead, "we won't have a society if we destroy the environment." We are all part of this world. What can we offer our children if everything is lost. It is our role to protect and preserve it not only for our own good but for the benefit of the next generations. With the help of social media and other communication technology, we can promote social awareness regarding these environmental issues. It is not too late yet.

LED Lamps For A Bright Tomorrow

Nowadays, using energy saving lamps such as CFL (compact florescent lamp) or LED (lighting emitting diode) lamps is not only convenient but practical as well. That’s because these types of lamps are known to be great budget savers. On top of that using energy saving lamps for our lighting needs is also one way of helping this planet.  But before LED lamps we were using incandescent light bulbs as they are less expensive to buy. We used to buy several incandescent light bulbs if in case one of the light bulbs burn out.

However, after reading a few articles about energy saving lamps and how it can benefit us, I decided to give it a try. I bought at least one of these energy saving lamps with my eyes closed as they are really costly. But I am satisfied with how one light bulb brightened the room. So with my mom’s permission I replaced all the lighting fixtures at home including the ceramic light sconces in the hallway and our bedrooms. I am glad that I took the initial step in changing all the light bulbs at home because not only that the LED lamps lasted longer than the incandescent lamps, our electric bill also lowered. Although we keep the ceramic light sconces on every night, the bill is still lower compared to the time when we were still using incandescent light bulbs.

In order to conserve more energy and pay for a lesser electric bill, we added dimmers to the ceramic light sconces especially the ceramic sconces in our bedrooms. The soft light coming from the star, planet and other heavenly body patterns of the 9" Milky Way Children’s Cylinder Wall Sconce seems to transform the bedroom into a little planetarium. It is fascinating to look at. Moreover, the soft light coming from the different patterns is relaxing. It can also make you feel sleepy which is great since I have been having problems sleeping lately.

Promoting the use of LED lamps and other energy saving lamps may not totally solve the problems of global warming. But somehow it made us one step closer to to our goal and that is to make this planet a better place not only for our children but for our children's children. I am sure that all of us wants nothing more that creating an ideal and safe place for everyone that we love. Let us all work towards that goal.
