Night Vision

No human being can see in the dark without the presence of light. However, there have been reports that there are a few individuals who are capable of doing this. It may sound absurd to some but they really exist. No, they are not super heroes. Although they seem to possess the ability of the famous super heroes whom we watch on the television or movies or read on the comic books.

Nong Youhui, the blue-eyed Chinese kid from Dahua, southern China is reported to possess an ability to see in the dark. Several tests were given to him to prove his ability to see in the dark. According Mail Online, the child was given a set of questionnaires which he was able to answer in pitch black. Eye Specialists were also consulted about Nong's night vision but they have no definite findings about it except that the child possess a perfectly good eyesight. But Nong Youhui is not alone with this kind of gift. In Baringo, Kenya, siblings Dennis and Winny Litei, who are 12 and 8 respectively, also possess the ability to see in the night without any artificial lighting. But just like the rest of the super heroes except for Batman and Robin from DC and Iron man, Hawkeye and Black Widow from Marvel, they also have a weakness. Their eyes are extremely sensitive in broad daylight which makes them squint and blink a lot.

When I was a kid, I wanted to become a superhero just like the rest of the other kids I knew. I wanted to have the ability to fly and see through walls just like my favorite superhero, Superman. Thankfully, I outgrew it became contented for being human who has no problems seeing in broad daylight. I may not possess a night vision just like these three great kids but what are the outdoor wall lights and other artificial lighting for?

Lighting And Our Health

Too much light is said to be unhealthy. It does not only cause fatigue but it also cause eye strain and disrupts our sleeping pattern. I understand the lighting should be bright to keep the employees awake and active during their shifts especially those who are working on a night shift or graveyard shift. I know, because I have been sleeping like a vampire during those years sleeping during the day and working during the night.

I have to cover the windows with thick blankets keep the natural light from escaping and turn on the 21 inched star shaped ceiling light to give the room a night effect. While my friends and fellow co-workers would cover their windows with pillows or wear a sleeping eye cover or eye mask. While others have made drastic changes to their bedroom by covering the walls and windows with black curtains. We have also become dependent to sleeping pills or antihistamines which our good company doctors prescribed to help us sleep. I prefer antihistamines though, because I also have allergies. There was a point in time where one tablet cannot knock me down. I have to take one and a half tablet of antihistamines to help me fall as sleep. And after four years and four months of working like a vampire I decided to quit. However, sleeping normally is still a problem up to this day.

Sleeping is a necessity. We need enough sleep to be productive in our work. It is important for companies or business owners to ensure the health and safety of their employees by providing proper ventilation and follow proper lighting safety guidelines set by Industrial Accident Prevention Association or IAPA. Moreover, they should also provide a clean environment for their employees. These things are just small stuffs but it will greatly help improve the productivity of the employees.

Getting Acquainted With The Winchester Mystery House

How would you feel if someone announced that a relative have bequeath you with a huge mansion with an added mystery? Ecstatic? Perhaps. That is if you do not believe in ghosts and anything supernatural which are drawn to this house. Would you allow the mystery of the house such as the Winchester Mystery House run away and never look back? If you do then you are running away from the millions of dollars which this great mansion is worth.

This infamous historic house which is shrouded with mystery used to be the home of Sarah L. Winchester in 525 South Winchester Boulevard, San Jose, California 95128. According to the stories, the mansion is haunted by the hosts of the people who were killed by the Winchester rifles. It is known that William Wirt Winchester, the husband of Sarah L. Winchester is the owner of the Winchester Repeating Arms Company which produced repeating rifles such as the Winchester rifles. To counter the ghosts, she was advised to never stop building the house. If she does then they will die. This is why up to this day that the famous mansion is still being constructed. Another weird thing about the house aside from the lack of master plan is that the doors and staircase leads to nowhere. It is a house of maze which has 160 rooms adorned with gold and silver chandeliers or ceiling light mount fixtures, art glass windows and other decorations which are still not being used.

A tour in the house sounds exciting and adventurous. But I will never visit alone. There have been several reports of spirit sightings in the house such as a chandelier shaking which was caught on the camera by one of the Staffs. You might say the shaking is due to earthquake but there was no earthquake at the time. But it is up to you to decide if the stories about spirit sightings are true or not.

An Advice From The Eye Specialist

How well do you take care of your eyes? Perhaps you are one of the few people who do not pay attention to what they call the "windows of the soul". I am also one of the guilty individuals who cares more of my hair or skin than my eyes. It is kind of ironic though that I am a regular patient in the eye clinic. I have dry eyes. But when I was little I had a slight astigmatism. I thought I would be wearing a pair of spectacles but to my relief my good doctor, an EENT(Eyes, Ears, Nose and Throat) Specialist strongly believed that I do not need one. Not yet. She saved my eyes from the ugly spectacles by recommending a lot of Vitamin A's and eye drops for a month. She also gave me several tips on how to take care of my eyes. Unfortunately, I did not take note of it or did not pay attention to it. All I can remember is that I should never ever read a book when the light is dim or do not use the wall lighting sconces or table lamps as your reading light unless they are bright enough for reading. Reading while traveling is not also advisable.

wall lighting sconces

I am just too lucky perhaps because I still have a perfect vision. It is probably because of all the Vitamin A tablets which my doctor had recommended and the bunch of bananas which I am fond of eating even until now. The only problem I have though is dry eyes which is caused by working too much in front of a computer. Thankfully, I was only treated with artificial tears. If I have failed to consult my EENT specialist right away, my condition might lead to the thinning of the cornea, corneal ulcer or the thickening of the cornea.

We should always take care of our body especially our eyes. These are the only eyes we have. Take Vitamin A tablets, food rich in Vitamin A, drink eight glasses of water, rest your eyes when it is tired, and always listen to your EENT's advice. If you don't then there is a huge possibility that you will lose your vision forever.
