How well do you take care of your eyes? Perhaps you are one of the few people who do not pay attention to what they call the "windows of the soul". I am also one of the guilty individuals who cares more of my hair or skin than my eyes. It is kind of ironic though that I am a regular patient in the eye clinic. I have dry eyes. But when I was little I had a slight astigmatism. I thought I would be wearing a pair of spectacles but to my relief my good doctor, an EENT(Eyes, Ears, Nose and Throat) Specialist strongly believed that I do not need one. Not yet. She saved my eyes from the ugly spectacles by recommending a lot of Vitamin A's and eye drops for a month. She also gave me several tips on how to take care of my eyes. Unfortunately, I did not take note of it or did not pay attention to it. All I can remember is that I should never ever read a book when the light is dim or do not use the wall lighting sconces or table lamps as your reading light unless they are bright enough for reading. Reading while traveling is not also advisable.
I am just too lucky perhaps because I still have a perfect vision. It is probably because of all the Vitamin A tablets which my doctor had recommended and the bunch of bananas which I am fond of eating even until now. The only problem I have though is dry eyes which is caused by working too much in front of a computer. Thankfully, I was only treated with artificial tears. If I have failed to consult my EENT specialist right away, my condition might lead to the thinning of the cornea, corneal ulcer or the thickening of the cornea.
We should always take care of our body especially our eyes. These are the only eyes we have. Take Vitamin A tablets, food rich in Vitamin A, drink eight glasses of water, rest your eyes when it is tired, and always listen to your EENT's advice. If you don't then there is a huge possibility that you will lose your vision forever.
