Use Proper Lighting To Avoid Eye Fatigue

The lighting fixtures we have at home, workplace and other places we visit affect our moods and health. Poor lighting system can hurt for example can hurt our eyes. Do you notice how you get tired easily especially when you are working in front of a computer. It is a good thing that CRT or Cathode Ray Tube are phased out because they are the main reason why we get eye strain or asthenopia. It happens when we focus our visions on a specific activity such as reading and working in front of a flickering monitor or if there is excessive lighting. Moreover, flickering can also give us a headache or worst, a migraine. It is also the reason why we experience blurry visions and pain around our eyes. Sometimes we also see double.

We cannot avoid working in front of a computer. When computers dominated our workplace, everything we do is done in front of a computer. It is important that we know about proper lighting and the proper way of working in front of a computer. According to Occupational Safety and Health Administration or OSHA, if we have paper works or if we are still working with CRT's our office lighting should range between 20 to 50 foot-candles and 73 foot-candles if we are working with LCD or liquid-crystal display monitors. It is also advisable that excessive lighting from behind our computer screen should be avoid. These can be achieve by using blinds or drapes on the windows. Ensure that there is no direct lighting to your field of vision. If you will be working with table lamps, use lamps that have shades. These will protect your eyes from eye fatigue and migraine.

It is important that proper lighting is observed. Other that causing us eye strain or eye fatigue, it also lowers the morale of the employees. It is okay to conserve energy but don't do it at the expense of your employee's health.
