My Best Friends' Tenth Wedding Anniversary

Parties are part of our social life. You can never live without it unless you decide to live like a hermit all your life. It is the only time that our family, friends and love ones gather together to share such a momentous occasion with us. Last Sunday was one of these momentous occasions. I was invited to my friends’ tenth wedding anniversary party. Both of them are my classmates back in grade school and high school. Both of them are my good friends as well. However I still have second thoughts since I know it is going to be a huge event and it is going to be too crowded for me. I could cook up an alibi and I know they will believe me. But I have been ignoring their invitations way too many times already. In spite of my antisocial behavior, I decided to show up even for just an hour or too.

Their home is just three blocks away from where I live. But I have not been there for a long period of time. The house still looks the same except for the added window shutters and window boxes. They also added a small swimming pool in the back yard. Their patio where the party was set up was adorned with these elegant looking exterior wall lights called The Carrington Style - One Lamp Lantern Fixture which seems to be noticed by everybody. Celebrating Christmas

Christmas is my favorite time of the year. I lost count how many times I have said it but I do not mind saying it again over and over again. It is quite funny though that it is also the time of the year where I am most broke. But just like a famous line from the song Hand in my pocket goes, “I’m broke but I’m happy.”

I am not a party person. I do not like crowds. I do not like cooking. I do not like cleaning before and after the party but Christmas day is an exception. It is the busiest time for me I guess. But I do not mind being busy this time of the year of every year because all my family, friends and love ones will be around to celebrate the birth of Christ. I am in luck since my brother who is a great cook is also coming home to celebrate. He is more than willing to prepare the food considering my talents for cooking. Besides this time around I have save enough money to hire some help to do the cleaning of the house. This time around we decided to hold the party in the backyard since we are expecting more people. Lighting fixtures in any form can be considered a basic necessity in every home that we cannot afford to lose. Just like our food and clothing, the lighting fixtures in our home are also important. When we were kids I know that most of us get scared easily just like most normal kids feel especially when there is a power outage all of a sudden. The art of pottery making is something which I always wish to be knowledgeable about. However, unlike Mathematics, English or Science, it is something which can only be learned by years of practice and dedication. It also requires a lot of patience. And just like a famous saying goes, “art is caught, not taught”.  It is a gift which no one can ever steal. 

When I was little I used to feel envious of my best friend who is good in pottery making. She is not only intelligent but she is also very good in making something nice out of her hands. She paints and draws like a pro. I also know how to paint and draw but my work was never as good as hers. She also has a green thumb which means that she is very good in growing plants. Of all the plants I tried to grow, only a few barely survived. She also tried teaching me how to make a small clay pot but what is suppose to look like a clay pot appears like a small lump of clay shaped to look like a small box. The frustration was great and I know I should not feel envious of whatever gifts she has. It is a good thing we grew up and I began to accept whatever gifts I had. Well, it is quite practical to just pay someone to get the job done especially when we are too busy to do anything. But then again, no one else knows our house more than we do. Sure, hired people will do whatever they are told to do. However, there are really some accessories inside our house which we need to clean for our selves especially our valued possessions which require special instructions or care such as ceramic lighting, antique furniture and vases. 

If I was not instructed when I first asked about the ceramic table lamps and bedroom lighting, I would have just cleaned the accumulated dust off and markings with a liquid cleaner. It will be absorbed by the white ceramic ware and will worsen whatever markings or smudges it has. A dry cloth is enough to clean the dust off. If there are any markings on the ceramic, using a medium P150 grit sandpaper which is normally use in sanding of bare wood will do the job. 

We all wish a clean environment for our family and it should start from home. Good housekeeping must be observed by every family member.  We should always see to it that every corner and every part of our house is properly cleaned to avoid pests from making our home their home as well.

What's Your Favorite Part Of The House?

Each of us has a special place or a favorite spot in our home. We treat that room as our kingdom and we do not let just anybody enter our little kingdom. It is a place sacred to us that will throw us to a fit if someone even dares enter that room or touches anything in the room. It is probably childish to consider it as such but it is something which we all find difficulty in letting go as we grow older.

Simple Living

We have made used of the lighting fixtures in more ways than one. Over the years we have used these different lighting such as gooseneck lighting and other lighting fixtures for advertising, navigation, media,building infrastructures and interior and exterior decorations. In addition, we use these lighting fixtures in our day to day living. That is due to the fact that they are living the most simple way of life. Which means they do not have any access to most of the things which we are currently enjoying such as the internet, computers, tablets, television, electricity, water system, etc. They do not have electricity. While most of us consider going back to the basic, some parts of the world are probably thinking about moving forward. An exchange probably? We can probably survive a day or two without any access to the benefits of modern technology. But a lifetime without it? Well, we might survive fetching water on our backs or cooking our food with wood but that means a lot of stress before we can adjust to this way of living. Just thinking about going back to the basic, reminds of the one of my favorite reality TV show-Survivor. It is not probably not that basic but similar because they have to fetch water to drink.

I also experienced living without the benefits of electricity when I went on a vacation in my uncle's homestead. The only solar panel and electric generator which ran the house needs to be replaced and repaired, so we did not have electricity. We all have depended to the kerosene lamp to light the house in the evening. They also cooked our food with wood. The only entertainment we had during those nights and days was the transistor radio. We also have to walk about 500 meters to fetch water to wash the dishware, silverware and cookware. I cannot remember how I survived what was suppose to be a fun vacation. But because of that experience, I learned how to appreciate the things which I often disregard. If there was one or two things which I enjoyed about that vacation, those were catching fireflies and stargazing with my cousins.

Bonding Time

There are several ways to bond with your family members, relatives, friends, and colleagues. But it should be something which everyone can enjoy such as eating, drinking coffee, going on a vacation or going to mall, window shopping or playing a game. Moreover, it should be an activity or activities which everyone should agree of doing. If not, then at least everyone should compromise.

But we all love and enjoy eating in the same restaurant in Paseo Del Norte, Carlsbad known as Tip Top Meats. 

Tip Top Meats is founded and owned by John Haedrich who is also famously called Big John. We never get the chance to know him. But that's okay. We love dining in this restaurant in spite of the fact that we have to wait in line. But the food is worth the wait. We always help ourselves with the Sausage Plate and the Chicken Cordon Bleu. I am thankful that Nanny does not how how to use Facebook. I don't want her to feel bad if in case she founds out that I ate chicken condon bleu besides hers. Chicken condon bleu is her favorite recipe. She would cook for us her favorite recipe whenever my friends would come by which most of the time happens in the evening. And then we would eat and talk in our backyard until nighttime with nothing but the Lumi style - two lamp medium post lantern fixture, the moon and the stars that serves us our light.

No human being can see in the dark without the presence of light. However, there have been reports that there are a few individuals who are capable of doing this. It may sound absurd to some but they really exist. No, they are not super heroes. Although they seem to possess the ability of the famous super heroes whom we watch on the television or movies or read on the comic books. 

Nong Youhui, the blue-eyed Chinese kid from Dahua, southern China is reported to possess an ability to see in the dark. Several tests were given to him to prove his ability to see in the dark. According Mail Online, the child was given a set of questionnaires which he was able to answer in pitch black. Eye Specialists were also consulted about Nong's night vision but they have no definite findings about it except that the child possess a perfectly good eyesight. But Nong Youhui is not alone with this kind of gift. In Baringo, Kenya, siblings Dennis and Winny Litei, who are 12 and 8 respectively, also possess the ability to see in the night without any artificial lighting. But just like the rest of the super heroes except for Batman and Robin from DC and Iron man, Hawkeye and Black Widow from Marvel, they also have a weakness. Their eyes are extremely sensitive in broad daylight which makes them squint and blink a lot. 

When I was a kid, I wanted to become a superhero just like the rest of the other kids I knew. I wanted to have the ability to fly and see through walls just like my favorite superhero, Superman. Thankfully, I outgrew it became contented for being human who has no problems seeing in broad daylight. I may not possess a night vision just like these three great kids but what are the outdoor wall lights and other artificial lighting for?
